Trump attacked a reporter’s looks on Truth Social. Jake Tapper wasn’t going to let that slide.
The tirade came after Maggie Haberman and three New York Times colleagues
reported that Trump plans to skip the 25th anniversary ceremony at Ground Zero because the site won’t let him deliver a speech, a rule in place since 2012. The reporting also noted Trump’s scheduled trip to Ireland for the Irish Open runs right through the anniversary window, and that he’ll instead attend a ceremony at the Pentagon.
Trump’s response wasn’t a rebuttal. It was a personal attack. “Maggot Hagerman, the Fake Reporter from The Failing New York Times, an unattractive person both inside and out, and who knows less about me than most reporters on the beat,” he wrote, dismissing accurate reporting as something Haberman had simply “made up.”
Tapper called it out directly on X. “I’m not going to repost
the filth the president wrote about Maggie Haberman, but suffice it to say she’s a great person, beautiful inside and out, an incredible mom and wife and colleague, and an amazing journalist,” he wrote. “The president’s comments are disgusting and beneath the office.”
He didn’t stop there. “We should never get used to this deterioration in our expectations for how a president should behave. Never.”
