About 20 minutes into Trump’s address, anchor Stephanie Ruhle interrupted coverage entirely.
She started with the biggest contradiction of the speech itself. Trump claimed he’s settled eight wars around the world, while in that same address, openly contemplating annihilating an entire country, which would itself be a war crime.Ruhle didn’t stop there.
She took apart Trump’s claim that foreign entities pledged more than $21 trillion in investments into the United States.”That’s factually incorrect,” Ruhle said. “On the White House’s own website, it says $11. 2 trillion. And what’s very important, these are pledges.
None of them are binding commitments, so it’s unclear if any of them will actually see any follow-through.”Then came the Strait of Hormuz claim.Trump had said ships were being “taken out” at rates of 22 to 37 per day. Ruhle checked it against actual reporting.
“That is not true,” Ruhle said. “A total of 17 commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend. That is down from 37 one week earlier.That is reporting from Reuters.”MS NOW’s senior national security reporter David Rohde backed her up completely.
Again, is classic Trump. It’s just riddled with false claims and exaggerations.”Meanwhile, CNN didn’t air the speech at all. Only Fox News carried it in full.
This comes just days after Trump banned MS NOW, CNN, and Politico from the White House entirely. Instead of backing down or softening its coverage, MS NOW kept doing exactly what journalism is supposed to do: checking the facts, live, no matter who’s talking.
