MIAMI, Fla. — A 36-year-old Miami woman is speaking out after surviving
a violent attack that left her partially blind and severely injured outside her downtown condominium. According to authorities, Caitlin Dydzuhn was attacked on the morning of May 19 just outside the MarinaBlue condominium in downtown Miami while taking her dog for a walk. Police say the assault appeared to be random.
Investigators allege that the suspect suddenly attacked Dydzuhn from behind, repeatedly striking her and causing devastating injuries. During the attack, she suffered severe facial trauma and injuries to one of her eyes. “I thought I was going to die,” Dydzuhn said while recounting the terrifying ordeal. Emergency responders transported her to a nearby hospital, where she underwent treatment for multiple injuries. Doctors later informed her that the attack had left her partially blind in one eye.
Authorities identified the suspect as 49-year-old Raydean Johnson. Following the incident, police
launched a search and eventually arrested Johnson after a lengthy standoff with officers. Investigators allege that Johnson used extreme violence during the attack. He now faces multiple serious charges, including attempted murder and aggravated battery.
A bystander is credited with helping stop the assault and may have prevented an even more tragic outcome. Dydzuhn expressed gratitude to those who came to her aid and to first responders who provided emergency assistance. The incident has raised concerns among residents about public safety in the downtown Miami area.
Community members and condominium residents are calling for increased security measures and stronger protections for pedestrians. Despite the physical and emotional trauma she continues to endure, Dydzuhn says she is focused on recovery and hopes sharing her story will raise awareness about violent crime and personal safety. The case remains under investigation.
