Sen. John Kennedy on possible 2028 presidential run: ‘Why not me?’

(NewsNation) — Sen. John Kennedy hasn’t ruled out the idea of running for president in 2028.

The Louisiana Republican told “Katie Pavlich Tonight” on Tuesday that while he’s

focused on the midterms and reelection for the Senate, he feels he can be more effective than some of the politicians who may decide to run.

“A lot of people enter the field, and I think they are goobers,” Kennedy said. “I’ve had some people talk to me about it. Why not me? That’s kind of how I look at it. But I’m not saying I will do it.”

“Two years in our political world and in America’s history right now is a long time,” Kennedy said. “You don’t know what things are going to look like.”

Kennedy added that despite speculation, he’s not planning anything regarding a bid

currently.

Ocasio-Cortez’s gravitas within the party is largely attributed to the assistance of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Kennedy said.

Kennedy thinks the Republicans will prevail come November, as he doesn’t foresee the American people buying what Ocasio-Cortez and the Democrats are selling.
