Overnight, Ukraine launched one of its largest long-range attacks of the year against Moscow and the surrounding region. Russian officials said more than 1,100 drones were downed across 19 regions, with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claiming as many as 1,600 intercepts in a 24-hour period, including hundreds aimed at the capital.
Russia reported at least two deaths and several injuries in… Enough got through. The Gazprom Neft Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya, about
15 kilometers from the Kremlin, was hit. Video from the scene showed large fires and heavy black smoke at dawn. Ukrainian officials said the strike damaged primary processing and isomerization units at a plant that supplies a large share of gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel to the Moscow region.
A logistics warehouse complex in Sofyino was also reported hit. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the operation, saying Ukrainian long-range systems struck “one of Russia’s key oil industry facilities and the aggressor’s logistics facility.” He called those sites part of the money that keeps the war machine running.

Ukraine framed the raid as a strike on energy and logistics that fund the invasion.
The timing was not subtle. On September 18, President Trump signed a
sweeping Russia sanctions bill into law targeting officials, energy, defense, and the shadow tanker fleet used to move Russian oil. For more than four years, Moscow has treated Ukrainian energy, ports, and cities as fair game.
Overnight, Kyiv answered by putting fire on a refinery that helps keep Russian tanks, trucks, and aircraft moving. That is the war as it actually is: not speeches, not maps, but fuel, money, and range.
