Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is taking a strong stand by pushing to withhold federal funding from California until the state finally cleans up its notoriously bloated voter rolls.
For years, California has resisted basic election integrity measures while benefiting from
billions in taxpayer dollars from the rest of the country. Enough is enough — states that refuse to maintain accurate voter lists should not expect American citizens elsewhere to keep subsidizing their dysfunction.
This move sends a clear message: federal money must come with basic standards of competence and honesty. Purging ineligible voters, non-citizens, and duplicates from the rolls is not controversial —
it is essential to ensuring every legal vote counts. California’s refusal to
do so only fuels widespread distrust in their election outcomes and rewards the very system that has turned the state into a cautionary tale.
Congress should back Luna’s effort and hold the line. Taxpayers nationwide are tired of funding failure. California must prove it can run honest elections before receiving another dime. Strong leadership like this is exactly what is needed to restore integrity across the board and remind every state that accountability comes before handouts.
